I own and have owned many Fortin products over the last several years. Including the 33,33 mini,Zuul and the original Meshuggah head(#36 as well as the Nameless plugin) still in my arsenal. The pedal is pretty much a tiny version of it's beastly amp big brother. Like the amp it takes a little time to dial in with your setup but when you do it's simply crushing. Found a good variety of hot rodded classic and modern tones within the switches and knobs. Again, similarly to the amp your pickups, speakers, tuning and most importantly speakers will have an effect on how you have to dial it. It loves a good tube amp(Orange Hinds Terror)into the front or effects loop return as a preamp out into a vintage Orange cab loaded with UK made Celestion v30s. Likewise I was able to get good sounds with a Micro Dark and my vintage Lab Series L5 solid state combo amp. It really made them snarl and they had that tight, metallic Meshuggah chunk. My Meshuggah signature guitars(FTM33,M80M And M8M) and Per Nilsson's Strandberg Singularity 8 sounded as close to them as a mere mortal could get(Lundgren M8s). Other low tuned guitars with different pickups(Ibanez RG 9,Schecter Kenny Hickey baritone,Woodrite Matt Pike Imperial 9 string)also sounded equally beastly with slightly different responses. Also through my friends Eleven rack into poweramp with multiple cabs attached(including 15" speakers!). My only response to the naysayers would be to dial with your ears and experiment with input methods, speakers and boosts. The built in Zuul can knock most of the noise out but it can get noisy at extreme gain settings with hot pickups so don't be afraid to throw another noise gate in the signal to squash it. It was also designed with lower tunings and baritone scales in mind so if you're in standard or near that you may have to do some EQing to thicken up the sound. I'm pretty satisfied with how it stood up to the plugin and real amp and will probably get the Kali pedal next to round out my Fortin tone stack that also has the Natas pedal. Try one out if you're into the Meshuggah sound and don't be afraid to experiment.
Thanks for yet another fantastic Fortin offering! Absolutely love this pedal, many boost sculpting options, built like a tank, and perfectly useful in many situations. Fits in very well with my other Fortin pedals. Thanks!
I like this better than the meshuggah pedal. Both are awesome, the Kali was easier for me to dial in. Awesome tones and note clarity even at high gain just going straight into my Orange Rocker 30 head since it has no effects loop.
